TREATMENT OF SOFT TISSUE LOSS OF THE INDEX FINGER BY USING REVERSE FOREARM FLAP
Yang Jeong-Yeol

Kim Kyeong-Sik
Abstract
The forearm flap is a fasciocutaneous flap based on the radial artery. It is currently utilized to reconstruct defects of the hand.

When the proximal end of the radial artery is ligated, the blood supply to the flap from the distal end of the radial artery is maintained retrogradely by the patent ulnar artery and deep palmar arch.

We had treated three cases of soft tissue loss of the index by using reverse forearm flap. The first case was crushing injury with middle third amputation of middle phalange of the index. The second case was electric burn on the right hand. These two cases were contraindicated to local flap or digital neurovascular island flap. The third case was degloved injury on the right index.

We had covered satisfactorily soft tissue defects of the index finger by using reverse forearm flap at one stage operation.
